The Crossings Marlboro Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is naturally suited to the soils and climate of The Crossings’ higher altitude upper valley vineyards from which the grapes are sourced. This wine was matured in French barrique and presents lifted aromas of cherries, underpinned by savoury notes. Cherry and berry fruits on the palate knit together with subtle oak and fine tannins to produce a wine with great finesse.

THE CROSSINGS MARLBORO PINOT NOIR, NEW ZEALAND
There’s a place in Marlborough, New Zealand, where early pioneers used to cross the fast-flowing
Awatere River. This is where we grow The Crossings wine – keeping alive that spirit of discovery.
The Crossings offers you exceptionally vibrant New Zealand wines that explore Marlborough’s
adventurous side. With distinctive elegance, our award-winning wines express the intense fruit
and mineral flavours that make Awatere Valley wine such a rewarding experience.
TASTING NOTE
This expressive Pinot Noir has lifted
aromas of black plums and violets.
Ripe berry fruit flavours combine
with savoury notes on the palate to
produce a wine that is both elegant
and approachable. Enjoy with
dishes such as lamb rack, roast pork
or duck breast.
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
Sculpted by ancient glaciers
between the Black Birch and Inland
Kaikoura mountain ranges, the
Awatere Valley is the coolest and
driest of the three Marlborough
sub-regions. Throughout the long
summer and early autumn months,
our 2014 vintage has captured its
ideal slow-ripening conditions. This
weather ensured healthy, clean vine
canopies and fruit packed with
flavour across all varieties.
Within the winery, each batch of
Pinot Noir was dealt with
individually to emphasize the
unique characteristics of each
vineyard block. Once the primary
fermentations were complete, all
batches were put into French oak
barriques, of which twenty percent
were new. Once in barrel, the wine
was chilled and stored for the
winter. The onset of spring saw the
barrels warmed to encourage
natural malolactic fermentation.
Following seven months in oak the
wine was racked from barrel,
blended before fining and then
bottled.

Very occasionally, a wine may suffer from cork taint, the unpleasant effects of a faulty closure. Cork taint is more common in bottles with a traditional cork closure, and is recognisable by a damp, rotten wood or rotten cardboard smell. It’s often quite pungent, and immediately detectable when opening a bottle for the first time. If you get a bottle you think is tainted, contact us and we’ll replace the bottle for free within 48 hours or give you a full refund – whichever you prefer.
