The fascinating Lagrein shows great complexity now that the vines have some age. Look for blackberries and black spice! The Dolcetto softens the palate and offers a burst of fruit to please and entice. This is designed for immediate pleasure, but has enough structure for a few years of cellaring.

Heartland Sposa E Sposa (Dolcetto & Lagrein) 75cl
Sposa e Sposa marks the beginning of a new decade for Dolcetto & Lagrein and is our eleventh vintage of the wine. Sposa e Sposa translates from Italian as Spouse and Spouse and refers to the marriage of Dolcetto and Lagrein. A unique blend not made in Italy or anywhere else, just here in Langhorne Creek by Ben. “A marriage made in Langhorne Creek.”
Vintage: 2014
Variety: Lagrein 54%, Dolcetto 46%
Region: Langhorne Creek 100%

Tasting Notes:
The fascinating Lagrein shows great complexity now that the vines have some age. Look for blackberries and black spice! The Dolcetto softens the palate and offers a burst of fruit to please and entice. This is designed for immediate pleasure, but has enough structure for a few years of cellaring.
Vinification:
The Dolcetto was cool fermented on skins for seven days before being crushed and matured in stainless steel in order to preserve the fresh, floral notes of the variety. The Lagrein was matured new French oak barrels after fermentation to create a rounder, softer texture.
2014 Vintage:
2014 followed the classic road of a late vintage accompanying a late Easter. Deep soil moisture from a traditional winter flood bolstered us against the warm summer days, as did the cooling Langhorne Creek winds. The longer ripening period gave us intense and complex Lagrein fruit that gives Sposa e Sposa true depth.

Very occasionally, a wine may suffer from cork taint, the unpleasant effects of a faulty closure. Cork taint is more common in bottles with a traditional cork closure, and is recognisable by a damp, rotten wood or rotten cardboard smell. It’s often quite pungent, and immediately detectable when opening a bottle for the first time. If you get a bottle you think is tainted, contact us and we’ll replace the bottle for free within 48 hours or give you a full refund – whichever you prefer.
